Sheila’s #3newthings in 2015
Sheila Trgovac shares her #3newthings. Let her story inspire you to get after your goals in 2015. Thanks for sharing, Sheila!
I am so excited to start 2015 off with some new experiences and challenges. What better way to grow as a person and a friend than to try new things and do them with some amazing people.
Last year I re-started running. As a long distance runner in high school, I gained confidence in myself and found it to be a great way to keep in shape. I ran some in college but never any races and never anything over a few miles. I remember my roommate would do these long runs out to the Dairy Queen and back. I remember thinking “she’s crazy—that was so far!” It was a 6-mile run, which is far—but with where I am now is no problem!
After college, I kept with running but only off and on, again, nothing usually over 2 miles. My running re-start happened when I found Team Film in May of 2014. I needed to get in shape and gain some confidence, I needed motivation, and most of all I needed to find amazing people to do this with. Over this last year, the fun I’ve had and the bonds I’ve formed have gone above and beyond my expectations. I ran my first 5K in years along with few others and beat my time by 6 minutes. I ran my first quarter marathon this summer and finished the Monumental Half Marathon this fall!
I am so proud of myself and so thankful for my Team Film ladies pushing me to set goals and then helping me train and run races with me and cheer me on along the way. It was an amazing year, and these women are truly a blessing and so inspiring. Going into 2015, I feel awesome about myself and my life. I am now physically strong, but in order to keep that motivation, I need to continue to set goals for myself.
My first new challenge for 2015 is signing up for the 2,015 in 2015 Virtual Race. This is a virtual race that allows you to sign up as an individual or a team of up to 3 to log 2,015 miles in 2015. My best college friend Devon and I have signed up as a team. She has also come a long way in 2014 with her running goals, starting in a similar place I did. Even though she lives in Philadelphia, running has kept us close. We will be doing this challenge together–each running 1007.5 miles. I’m so excited to push myself and keep up. I know it will be extremely hard. I tend to jump on and off the running wagon at times, going a few weeks without a run, especially once it gets cold. I’m a hibernator for sure! I know this will keep me motivated and keep our friendship strong.
My second challenge for 2015 will be the Winter Night Trail Quarter Marathon on January 29th at Eagle Creek. I seriously am still not sure how I am going to accomplish this. I know it’s going to be freezing (I hate cold), I know it’s going to be dark and these trails are not the friendliest, and what if there is snow or ice??? But you know what, it’s going to be a blast and something totally new. These are the kind of challenges that when you wake up the next day sore or injured or tired and think–wow I totally did that! I’m sure all of those sentiments will ring true for me, and I’m so excited for it!
My third challenge of 2015 will be to run 2 half marathons. One of them I’d like to run on the trail. I love the trail. It’s such a happy peaceful place and what better way to get my second half marathon done than in a place that I love. I hope to do this in the spring/summer (any suggestions??). For my second half marathon, I’d like to set a new PR. This year I ran the Monumental in 2:13:02. I’d like to cut off 5-10 minutes and possibly run it in 2 hours. It sounds so crazy to me now but I know if I put in the work, I can do it. I’m thinking I might want to travel someplace cool to run this and make it a big event to keep me motivated.
I hope after reading this, and feeling how excited I am to work on my #3newthings, you will find some motivation to accomplish your 3 things this year. Get out there, set some goals, and have some fun! Live Your Film!
