Team Film “It Girl” // Karen Yott
Karen turned 50 this year and decided to try 50 new things ~ some big, some small but all meaningful to her Film!
I turned 50 this year and started to reflect on my life, wondering if I will have regrets. Often I think “I can do this later, or now is not the time.” For my 50th year, I decided to try 50 new things or make things I love a real priortiy. Here is a list of some of those things.
~ I put into place a new mantra – My time is most important. I want to spend my time having fun with my family and friends and eliminate things that have no meaning.
~ I cooked my own birthday dinner and made my own cake. I wanted it a certain way and I made it happen. The menu? Beef Tenderloin, steamed broccoli, salad, carrot cake.
~ I’m getting rid of 2015 things in 2015! More that half way there! This could be something as small as a box of markers to something large like a piece of furniture.
~ Visited New Orleans and saw the bishops bless the palms for Palm Sunday!
~ Went on a swamp cruise.
~ Visited 2 plantations — something I have wanted to do since grade school.
~ Started wearing tank tops AND received some nice compliments on my arms.
~ Hiked Pinnacle Peak in Arizona. This was a double whammy for me-visited Arizona and hiked alone! Quite a big deal because I love to travel/adventure alone.
~ Joined Team Film and backpacked for the first time on the Deem Wilderness Adventure.
~ Visited the Upper French River in Canada with my family. BEST TRIP EVER!
~ Watched an IRL street race in Toronto.
~ Ate at a Persian restaurant — twice.
~ I hike once a week.
~ Water ski as often as I can. For the past 2 years I wasn’t strong enough to make it a priority. I lost 20 pounds and now make it a priority.
~ Attended a Sisterhood retreat and didn’t know anyone or what was going to happen.
~ Zip lining — haven’t done this yet, but will by the end of the year.
Some of these activites were planned, some unplanned. Some were big and some quite small. Each one had meaning and each was important to me. The interesting thing is that when I started this journey, I thought if there was a movie about me, who would watch? I started living my film and discovered there was a fantastic group of women doing the same thing! Joining Team Film brought everything full circle. It’s exciting that I can live my film and participate in new adventures with incredible women wanting to do the same things! At this point in my life I thought I would have met all my friends, but I have discovered that meeting new friends is part of the adventure!
